Where our fitters travel
Holyhead and the districts around it, LL65, LL64 and LL63, all sit inside our working area. So does the ground between Holyhead and Caernarfon (19 miles), and on towards Bangor (22 miles). When a fitting team is booked, their travel is already in the quoted price, so it does not turn up as a surprise line on the final bill.
What we do on the day
- Height set above the finished roof to the maker's stated minimum
- Fall built into the kerb where the rooflight needs one
- Diagonals measured so the kerb is square before anything sits on it
- Height above the finished roof — We set the upstand so it stands at least 150 mm above the finished roof, measured from the top of any ballast, paving or walkway.
- Fall built in or level — We confirm whether your rooflight needs the kerb to provide a fall or should sit level.
Fitting your rooflight upstand, step by step
The fitters measure twice before cutting: the opening, the rooflight's kerb size and the finished roof level. The kerb is built, packed level or to the maker's fall, insulated and weathered into the roof covering. You are left with an upstand ready for the rooflight, and a note of the sizes it was built to.
Planning and building rules in Wales
For a Welsh home, start with where the house is. In a conservation area, National Park, AONB or World Heritage Site, a rooflight needs planning permission; outside those, permitted development usually covers one that projects 150 mm or less. Side-facing roof windows within 10.5 m of a boundary must be obscure-glazed and fixed. New openings need building regulations approval, and replacements we fit are notified with a building notice, as we are not registered with a competent person scheme. We confirm all of this for your address.
Before you get in touch
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, LL65 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Holyhead
Do you cover Holyhead?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Holyhead and the surrounding districts, including LL65. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?
Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
Tell us your postcode, LL65 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
