Fitting across Chesterfield and nearby
Jobs across S41, S40 and S43 are part of our normal cover for Chesterfield. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Staveley and Dronfield are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.
What we do on the day
- Kerb sized from the maker's drawing, internal and external dimensions both checked
- Fall built into the kerb where the rooflight needs one
- Treated timber frame fixed down to the deck and joists
- Height above the finished roof — We set the upstand so it stands at least 150 mm above the finished roof, measured from the top of any ballast, paving or walkway.
- Roof covering compatibility — We check what the roof is covered in before choosing how the membrane meets the kerb.
A typical installation day
The fitters measure twice before cutting: the opening, the rooflight's kerb size and the finished roof level. The kerb is built, packed level or to the maker's fall, insulated and weathered into the roof covering. You are left with an upstand ready for the rooflight, and a note of the sizes it was built to.
Planning and building rules in England
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.
Before you get in touch
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, S41 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Chesterfield
Do you cover Chesterfield?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Chesterfield and the surrounding districts, including S41. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
Get in touch with the details of your Chesterfield property and we will explain what the job involves and what it costs.
