Is your address covered?
Jobs across SL4, SL3 and SL1 are part of our normal cover for Windsor. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Slough and Egham are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.
What we do on the day
- Treated timber frame fixed down to the deck and joists
- Insulation fitted to the upstand faces to limit heat loss
- Diagonals measured so the kerb is square before anything sits on it
- Fall built in or level — We confirm whether your rooflight needs the kerb to provide a fall or should sit level.
- Roof covering compatibility — We check what the roof is covered in before choosing how the membrane meets the kerb.
From arrival to clean-up
On the day, the fitters check the opening and the roof deck around it, then cut and fix treated timber to the maker's kerb size, square and level, with any fall the rooflight needs built in. Insulation goes on the faces that need it, and the roof membrane is turned up and dressed so the kerb is weathertight before anyone leaves. Most upstand jobs take half a day to a day.
Regulations for Windsor properties
In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.
Before you get in touch
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, SL4 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Windsor
Does a rooflight need building regulations approval?
A new opening usually needs building regulations approval. A replacement is a controlled fitting: it must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. We are not registered with a scheme, so replacements we fit are notified to building control with a building notice, and the council's fee is shown on your quote.
Do you cover Windsor?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Windsor and the surrounding districts, including SL4. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?
Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.
Send a few photos and your SL4 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
