Trade rooflight fitting in County Down

Rooflight fitting in County Down is planned around dry spells, not just calendar dates. That matters more than people think: membranes and sealants need a dry surface, and a roof should not be left open in poor weather. So when we offer a date for trade rooflight fitting, it comes with a sensible fallback. We take jobs across all 16 postcode districts in County Down, and the written quote sets out what is included before you commit.

Towns we list in County Down

County Down is part of our normal coverage in Northern Ireland. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What we do on the day

  • Upstands built by us where you would rather not
  • Supplied units checked against your schedule before fitting
  • Flat rooflights fitted, sealed and trimmed on your kerbs
  • Building control sign-off — We agree with you how building control is handled before fitting.
  • Deliveries and damage — We check delivered units against the schedule before fitting.

Rules that apply in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, the energy standard for a new or replacement rooflight or roof window in an existing home is WER Band C or a U-value of 1.6 W/m²K, under Technical Booklet F1. Cutting a new opening alters the roof structure, so a building control application is expected; confirm with the council's building control team. Planning permitted development covers many rooflights on houses if they stay below the ridge, project no more than 15 cm on a road-facing slope and sit at least 0.5 m from the ridge, eaves and verges.

Common questions in County Down

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Who deals with building control on trade jobs?

On new-build and extension work the rooflights usually sit within your approval or warrant. On replacements in homes in England and Wales we agree up front who notifies building control; we are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we cannot self-certify.

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
