Towns we list in County Down
Coverage in County Down works by postcode, not by distance from an office. Give us the full postcode and we will confirm whether it is standard cover, as it is for most of Northern Ireland, or one of the few remote and island areas handled by arrangement. Either way, you get a written quote before any work is booked, with travel included in the price.
What's included
- Building notice given to the council in England and Wales, with its fee on the quote
- Internal reveal made good where the old trim or plaster was damaged
- Roof membrane repaired and turned up where it meets the kerb
- Dome to glass upgrades — We check that the opening and kerb suit a flat glass unit before quoting a dome-to-glass swap.
- Is the kerb worth keeping? — We decide whether the existing kerb can stay only after checking it for rot, height and squareness.
Rules that apply in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland has its own rules. Permitted development for rooflights on a house requires the unit to sit below the highest part of the roof, project no more than 15 cm where the slope faces a road, and stay at least half a metre from the ridge, eaves, party wall and verge. It doesn't apply in conservation areas or within the grounds of a listed building. For building control, structural roof alterations need an application, and rooflights must meet WER Band C or 1.6 W/m²K.
Common questions in County Down
Do you cover County Down?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in County Down and the surrounding districts, including BT postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Will my new replacement rooflight leak?
A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.
Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?
Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
