Rooflight glass replacement in Wiltshire

Before any rooflight glass unit is fitted in Wiltshire, three measurements get checked: the builder's opening, the external size of the unit, and the upstand height above the finished roof, or the batten and tile details on a pitched roof. Get those right and the rest of the job follows. We handle rooflight glass replacement in every part of Wiltshire, with 9 towns listed on the site and the countryside between them covered too.

Towns we list in Wiltshire

Coverage in Wiltshire works by postcode, not by distance from an office. Give us the full postcode and we will confirm whether it is standard cover, as it is for most of England, or one of the few remote and island areas handled by arrangement. Either way, you get a written quote before any work is booked, with travel included in the price.

What the job includes

  • New unit set on packers, then beaded, capped or bonded as designed
  • Frame rebate cleaned and checked for damage, corrosion or failed seals
  • Measuring visit to size the glass and identify its make-up
  • Weight and lifting — We plan how a heavy pane gets onto the roof and into the frame.
  • Can the glass come out? — We check whether your rooflight has removable glass or a bonded unit before booking a fitting visit.

Rules that apply in England

Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.

Common questions in Wiltshire

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.

Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?

If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.
