Rooflight glass replacement in Oxfordshire

A good share of rooflight glass replacement in Oxfordshire is replacement work. Older units go brittle or discoloured, sealed glass mists, and seals give up after years of sun and frost. Swapping the unit is often possible on the existing kerb, provided that kerb is sound, level and tall enough above the finished roof. Where it is not, we rebuild it. We cover the whole of Oxfordshire, across 30 postcode districts, with fitters travelling to each address.

Towns we list in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire is part of our normal coverage in England. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What the job includes

  • Old glass taken out safely and removed from site
  • Frame rebate cleaned and checked for damage, corrosion or failed seals
  • Measuring visit to size the glass and identify its make-up
  • Condensation or a failed seal — We confirm whether the mist is inside the sealed unit or on the room-side surface.
  • Weight and lifting — We plan how a heavy pane gets onto the roof and into the frame.

Rules that apply in England

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

Common questions in Oxfordshire

Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?

If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.

How long does new rooflight glass take?

The new sealed unit is made to the measured size, so there is a gap between the measuring visit and the fitting visit while it is produced. We give you the expected timing when we price the glass, and book the fitting once it has arrived.

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.
