Towns we list in Cardiff & the Vale
Fitting across Cardiff & the Vale means planning routes, access and lifting as well as the roof itself. Narrow lanes, shared driveways and town-centre parking restrictions all affect how a large unit is delivered and raised to roof level. We ask about these early so the quote reflects them. That approach is the same everywhere we work in Wales, from single domestic jobs to multi-unit commercial sites.
What we do on the day
- Frame rebate cleaned and checked for damage, corrosion or failed seals
- Sealed unit ordered to match or improve on the original glass
- New unit set on packers, then beaded, capped or bonded as designed
- Matching the glass make-up — We identify the existing glass so the replacement performs at least as well.
- Can the glass come out? — We check whether your rooflight has removable glass or a bonded unit before booking a fitting visit.
Rules that apply in Wales
Wales sets energy limits of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 1.4 W/m²K for roof windows, and new rooflight openings generally need building regulations approval. Replacement units are controlled fittings; we are not registered with a competent person scheme, so ours are covered by a building notice to the council. Planning permission is needed for rooflights in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs and World Heritage Sites. We check which applies and include the fee in your quote.
Common questions in Cardiff & the Vale
Is the measuring visit charged?
Yes. The first visit measures the existing glass and checks the frame, and it is charged. We confirm that price before you book. The fitting of the new glass is then priced in writing, so you see the full cost before anything is ordered.
Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?
If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.
Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?
Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.
