Roof lantern installation in Cardiff & the Vale

Rooflight fitting in Cardiff & the Vale is planned around dry spells, not just calendar dates. That matters more than people think: membranes and sealants need a dry surface, and a roof should not be left open in poor weather. So when we offer a date for roof lantern installation, it comes with a sensible fallback. We take jobs across all 13 postcode districts in Cardiff & the Vale, and the written quote sets out what is included before you commit.

Towns we list in Cardiff & the Vale

Cardiff & the Vale is part of our normal coverage in Wales. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What's included

  • Upstand checked for size, level and square before the kit is opened
  • Glass lifted and laid into the frame by hand or with gear
  • Frame assembled on the kerb in the maker's set order
  • Following the build order — We assemble lanterns in exactly the sequence the instructions give.
  • Upstand size and tolerance — We check the kerb against the lantern maker's figures before the kit is opened.

Rules that apply in Wales

In Wales, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval, and a replacement needs either a scheme-registered installer's certificate or a building notice to the council. We are not registered with a scheme, so we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. Rooflights must meet 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K. Planning is tighter than in England: rooflights are not permitted development in conservation areas, National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or World Heritage Sites, so we check your address before quoting.

Common questions in Cardiff & the Vale

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

Do you cover Cardiff & the Vale?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Cardiff & the Vale and the surrounding districts, including CF postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a roof lantern into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.
