Towns we list in Cardiff & the Vale
From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Cardiff & the Vale. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in Wales, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.
What's included
- Building notice given to the council in England and Wales, with its fee on the quote
- Old rooflight or dome unscrewed, lifted out and taken away for disposal
- Internal reveal made good where the old trim or plaster was damaged
- Is the kerb worth keeping? — We decide whether the existing kerb can stay only after checking it for rot, height and squareness.
- Inside finishes — We check the condition of the plaster and trim around the opening from inside.
Rules that apply in Wales
Wales sets energy limits of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 1.4 W/m²K for roof windows, and new rooflight openings generally need building regulations approval. Replacement units are controlled fittings; we are not registered with a competent person scheme, so ours are covered by a building notice to the council. Planning permission is needed for rooflights in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs and World Heritage Sites. We check which applies and include the fee in your quote.
Common questions in Cardiff & the Vale
How long does fitting take?
Fitting a replacement rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
Do you cover Cardiff & the Vale?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Cardiff & the Vale and the surrounding districts, including CF postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
