Rooflight glass replacement in Lanarkshire

Before any rooflight glass unit is fitted in Lanarkshire, three measurements get checked: the builder's opening, the external size of the unit, and the upstand height above the finished roof, or the batten and tile details on a pitched roof. Get those right and the rest of the job follows. We handle rooflight glass replacement in every part of Lanarkshire, with 12 towns listed on the site and the countryside between them covered too.

Towns we list in Lanarkshire

From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Lanarkshire. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in Scotland, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.

What the job includes

  • Joints water tested and the glass cleaned inside and out
  • New unit set on packers, then beaded, capped or bonded as designed
  • Sealed unit ordered to match or improve on the original glass
  • Condition of the frame — We look at the frame closely before committing to new glass.
  • Condensation or a failed seal — We confirm whether the mist is inside the sealed unit or on the room-side surface.

Rules that apply in Scotland

In Scotland a new rooflight needs a building warrant before work starts. A like-for-like replacement including the frame is exempt from a warrant but must meet current standards, so the glazing has to reach 1.6 W/m²K or better. For planning, rooflights on houses outside conservation areas can often go ahead under permitted development, but it is worth confirming with the planning authority.

Common questions in Lanarkshire

How long does new rooflight glass take?

The new sealed unit is made to the measured size, so there is a gap between the measuring visit and the fitting visit while it is produced. We give you the expected timing when we price the glass, and book the fitting once it has arrived.

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.
