Roof lantern installation in Airdrie

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for roof lantern installation in Airdrie, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a roof lantern looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Airdrie and properties throughout Lanarkshire.

Guide ranges for supply & fit. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building warrant fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Is your address covered?

Our fitters come to you. For Airdrie that covers ML6, ML5 and ML4, plus nearby Coatbridge and Bellshill. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

What we check on a supplied unit

Which works out better, buying your own or letting us supply? It depends on what you value. Buying your own gives you control of the product and what you pay for it. Letting us supply puts the whole job, unit and fitting, under one written quote. On a customer-supplied unit we still measure it against the opening, look at the upstand, and inspect the condition it arrived in. Warranty on the product sits with whoever sold it, while the fitting carries our own guarantee.

What the job includes

  • Caps, end closures and ridge trims fitted and sealed
  • Glass lifted and laid into the frame by hand or with gear
  • Frame assembled on the kerb in the maker's set order
  • Heat and glare — We talk through the glass options before you order a large lantern.
  • Following the build order — We assemble lanterns in exactly the sequence the instructions give.

What happens on the day

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a roof lantern, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Regulations for Airdrie properties

If you live in Scotland, the key question is whether the job is new or a replacement. A new rooflight needs a building warrant. Swapping an old rooflight for a new one, frame included, doesn't, as long as the new unit meets the standards: the energy figure for new or replacement rooflights in alterations is 1.6 W/m²K. Conservation areas have no householder permitted development rights for roof alterations, and listed buildings need listed building consent.

Help us quote accurately

Keep it simple. Two or three photos, outside and inside. Approximate sizes. What the roof is made of. Anything awkward about getting up there, such as a conservatory below, a narrow side path or no parking. If you bought the rooflight online, the link or model name. Then your postcode in or around ML6. That is enough for a first price.

Common questions in Airdrie

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.

Do you cover Airdrie?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Airdrie and the surrounding districts, including ML6. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.

Got a unit waiting to go in, or need one sourced? Either way, start with your Airdrie address and a couple of photos.
