Rooflight installers in Cardiff

Whatever the job in Cardiff, the route to a price is the same. Fit-only work is usually priced from your photos and measurements. Supply and fit, replacements and new openings get a free survey. After that, a written quote sets out the scope and the price before anything is booked. The range covers rooflights, lanterns, pitched roof windows, conservation units, upstands and kerbs, and trade fitting across Cardiff & the Vale. Leak investigation is available too, as a charged visit with its price confirmed before you book.

Specialist fitting or a general builder

The joint between the rooflight and the roof covering is where most leaks start. On a flat roof that means turning the membrane up the kerb and terminating it properly under the frame. On a pitched roof it means the right flashing kit, lapped correctly with the tiles or slates. These details are fiddly and easy to rush on a busy build. Giving them to someone focused on fitting the rooflight, rather than treating it as one task among dozens, cuts the chance of a callback.

Fitting in Cardiff and beyond

Our fitters cover all of Cardiff, including CF10, CF11 and CF24, and travel on to Penarth, Caerphilly and Barry on the same basis. Nobody needs to visit us, because we come to the property for surveys and fitting. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is part of the written quote rather than an extra.

Planning and building rules in Wales

In Wales, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval, and a replacement needs either a scheme-registered installer's certificate or a building notice to the council. We are not registered with a scheme, so we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. Rooflights must meet 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K. Planning is tighter than in England: rooflights are not permitted development in conservation areas, National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or World Heritage Sites, so we check your address before quoting.

Questions about rooflight fitting in Cardiff

Will my new rooflight leak?

A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.

Do you make good inside after fitting?

Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.
