Rooflight upstands & kerbs in Powys

We cover 18 postcode districts across Powys, and we fit rooflight upstands in all of them. The work itself does not change from one district to the next. A rooflight upstand still needs a correctly sized opening, an upstand or flashing to suit the roof, and sealing that matches the covering. What does change is access: terraced streets, long gardens, steep pitches, tight parking. We price that honestly in the written quote rather than averaging it out across every job.

Towns we list in Powys

We work right across Wales, and Powys is covered on the same footing as everywhere else. There is no showroom or depot to visit. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only jobs, from your photos. If your address is remote or reached by ferry, tell us early and we will confirm what arrangement is needed before quoting.

What the job includes

  • Treated timber frame fixed down to the deck and joists
  • Roof membrane turned up, bonded and finished at the kerb top
  • Kerb sized from the maker's drawing, internal and external dimensions both checked
  • Height above the finished roof — We set the upstand so it stands at least 150 mm above the finished roof, measured from the top of any ballast, paving or walkway.
  • Energy limit for site-built kerbs — We insulate upstands to meet the limit for site-built upstands, which is 0.35 W/m²K in England and Wales.

Rules that apply in Wales

Welsh rules differ from England's in one important way: rooflights lose permitted development rights in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs and World Heritage Sites. Elsewhere on a house, a rooflight that projects no more than 150 mm and stays below the highest part of the roof is usually fine. Building regulations still apply to new openings, replacements we fit go through a building notice because we are not scheme-registered, and the energy limit for rooflights is 2.2 W/m²K. A new Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027.

Common questions in Powys

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

Do you cover Powys?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Powys and the surrounding districts, including LD, NP, SA and SY postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?

Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
