Coverage in and around Elland
Elland and the districts around it, HX5, HX4 and HD3, all sit inside our working area. So does the ground between Elland and Halifax (2 miles), and on towards Brighouse (3 miles). When a fitting team is booked, their travel is already in the quoted price, so it does not turn up as a surprise line on the final bill.
What we check on a supplied unit
Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a sun tunnel to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.
Included in the work
- Rigid or flexible tube run and joined, with as few bends as possible
- Dome fixed and sealed on top of the flashing
- Route through the loft checked for joists, cables and pipes
- Flat or pitched roof kit — We confirm the roof type and covering before ordering the kit.
- Length and bends in the tube — We plan the shortest, straightest route we can between the roof and the ceiling.
Fitting your sun tunnel, step by step
On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a sun tunnel, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.
Planning and building rules in England
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Before you get in touch
Start with your phone. Take a picture of the roof where the unit goes or already sits, then one from inside looking up. Measure what you can, even roughly. Tell us what the roof is covered with and how a fitter would reach it: ladder, garden access or scaffold. Bought it already? Send the link or spec. Add your full postcode, for example in HX5, and we can price it.
Common questions in Elland
Can you fit the sun tunnel I bought online?
Yes, fit-only is one of our core services. Send the product link or spec, photos of the roof and rough sizes, and we can usually price it from those. Before fitting we check the delivery for damage, which should be reported to the seller, plus the size against the opening, the flashing kit and the roof pitch. The product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our guarantee covers the fitting.
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?
We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.
Questions before you commit? Send them over with your Elland postcode and we will answer them plainly, with a quote alongside.
