Sun tunnel installation in Angus & Dundee

We cover 9 postcode districts across Angus & Dundee, and we fit sun tunnels in all of them. The work itself does not change from one district to the next. A sun tunnel still needs a correctly sized opening, an upstand or flashing to suit the roof, and sealing that matches the covering. What does change is access: terraced streets, long gardens, steep pitches, tight parking. We price that honestly in the written quote rather than averaging it out across every job.

Towns we list in Angus & Dundee

We work right across Scotland, and Angus & Dundee is covered on the same footing as everywhere else. There is no showroom or depot to visit. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only jobs, from your photos. If your address is remote or reached by ferry, tell us early and we will confirm what arrangement is needed before quoting.

What we do on the day

  • Dome fixed and sealed on top of the flashing
  • Route through the loft checked for joists, cables and pipes
  • Ceiling opening cut neatly and the diffuser fitted
  • Flat or pitched roof kit — We confirm the roof type and covering before ordering the kit.
  • Tube size — We match the tube size to the room and the roof.

Rules that apply in Scotland

In Scotland a new rooflight needs a building warrant before work starts. A like-for-like replacement including the frame is exempt from a warrant but must meet current standards, so the glazing has to reach 1.6 W/m²K or better. For planning, rooflights on houses outside conservation areas can often go ahead under permitted development, but it is worth confirming with the planning authority.

Common questions in Angus & Dundee

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a sun tunnel into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.

Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?

Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.

Will my new sun tunnel leak?

A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.
