Commercial rooflight installation in Angus & Dundee

No two commercial rooflights in Angus & Dundee cost exactly the same to fit, and a guide price only gets you so far. What moves it: the size and weight of the unit, whether a new opening is needed, the roof covering, scaffold or lifting needs, and how much internal finishing you want. We quote commercial rooflight installation across Angus & Dundee with each of those spelt out. Send photos for a first figure, or arrange a survey where the job calls for one.

Towns we list in Angus & Dundee

Angus & Dundee is part of our normal coverage in Scotland. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What the job includes

  • Unit schedule and handover notes for the building's records
  • Old units removed, with waste taken off site
  • Access, edge protection and fragile-roof covers planned before work starts
  • Glass or polycarbonate — We compare glass and polycarbonate units against the roof, use and budget.
  • Working around occupied buildings — We plan noise, dust and access around the people using the building.

Rules that apply in Scotland

On non-domestic buildings and blocks of flats in Scotland, new rooflights and roof alterations need a building warrant, and the Technical Handbooks set energy and fire requirements for the glazing. Smoke vents must be certified products with controls commissioned by a specialist. We confirm the warrant route for your building.

Common questions in Angus & Dundee

Do commercial rooflights need planning permission?

Like-for-like replacements on commercial buildings rarely need planning permission. New or larger rooflights on non-domestic buildings and blocks of flats usually need checking with the planning authority, because householder permitted development rights don't apply. We tell you what we know about your building and point you to the right team.

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the commercial rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
