Rooflight glass replacement in Fife

Across Fife we fit rooflight glass units for homeowners, builders, roofers and commercial clients. The trade side matters: an extension company with jobs running in several of the 4 towns we list does not want to coordinate a different fitter for each. We can take the rooflight element of every site, fitted to the maker's instructions and left ready for the next trade. Domestic customers get the same fitting standard, quoted in writing before work begins.

Towns we list in Fife

Fife is part of our normal coverage in Scotland. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What the job includes

  • Joints water tested and the glass cleaned inside and out
  • Frame rebate cleaned and checked for damage, corrosion or failed seals
  • New glazing tapes, gaskets or sealant fitted to suit the frame
  • Condensation or a failed seal — We confirm whether the mist is inside the sealed unit or on the room-side surface.
  • Weight and lifting — We plan how a heavy pane gets onto the roof and into the frame.

Rules that apply in Scotland

In Scotland a new rooflight needs a building warrant before work starts. A like-for-like replacement including the frame is exempt from a warrant but must meet current standards, so the glazing has to reach 1.6 W/m²K or better. For planning, rooflights on houses outside conservation areas can often go ahead under permitted development, but it is worth confirming with the planning authority.

Common questions in Fife

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.

Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?

If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.
