Towns we list in Argyll & Bute
From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Argyll & Bute. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in Scotland, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.
Argyll's islands, and some remote mainland addresses, are covered by arrangement, with travel and any ferry costs priced into the quote before you commit.
What we do on the day
- Roof membrane checked where it meets the lantern frame
- Caps, end closures and ridge trims fitted and sealed
- Glass lifted and laid into the frame by hand or with gear
- Heat and glare — We talk through the glass options before you order a large lantern.
- Lanterns and planning — We check whether your lantern can go in without a planning application.
Rules that apply in Scotland
For Scottish homes: building warrant for new rooflight openings; no warrant for replacing a rooflight complete with its frame, provided it meets the standards, including 1.6 W/m²K; planning permission in conservation areas and listed building consent for listed properties. Outside those, permitted development usually covers house rooflights, but the planning authority has the final word, so we check before you commit.
Common questions in Argyll & Bute
What upstand height and roof pitch does roof lantern fitting need?
It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.
Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?
We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.
Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?
Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.
