New rooflight in an existing roof in Salford

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for new rooflight openings in Salford, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a new rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Salford and properties throughout Greater Manchester.

Coverage in and around Salford

Fitters travel to the job, so the address is what counts. In Salford that means postcode districts M6, M5 and M3, and the same teams can just as easily take on work in Eccles, about 2 miles away, or Old Trafford at roughly 2 miles. Survey and fitting dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is built into the quote rather than added later.

Your rooflights or ours

Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a new rooflight to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.

What the job includes

  • Survey of joist direction, roof build-up, ceiling void and access
  • Insulated upstand built square, level and to the maker's height
  • Opening marked out, covering stripped back and the deck cut cleanly
  • Planning for your roof — We check whether the new rooflight falls within permitted development for your house and nation.
  • Warm or cold roof build-up — We find out whether the roof is insulated above or between the joists before designing the upstand.

How a fitting day runs

Protection comes before tools. Floors, furniture and stairs get covered, and the ceiling below the opening is sheeted to catch dust. Up top, the fitters confirm the opening is square and the upstand or flashing suits what the maker specifies. Fixing follows, then weather-sealing into the membrane, felt or tiles. Only once the roof is tight do they turn to the internal reveal. Time on site for a new rooflight: two to three days, weather permitting.

Regulations for Salford properties

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Before you get in touch

Keep it simple. Two or three photos, outside and inside. Approximate sizes. What the roof is made of. Anything awkward about getting up there, such as a conservatory below, a narrow side path or no parking. If you bought the rooflight online, the link or model name. Then your postcode in or around M6. That is enough for a first price.

Common questions in Salford

Can you fit the rooflight I bought online?

Yes, fit-only is one of our core services. Send the product link or spec, photos of the roof and rough sizes, and we can usually price it from those. Before fitting we check the delivery for damage, which should be reported to the seller, plus the size against the builder's opening and the upstand height. The product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our guarantee covers the fitting.

What upstand height and roof pitch does rooflight fitting need?

It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.

Do you cover Salford?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Salford and the surrounding districts, including M6. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Ask for a quote for your Salford roof. Survey dates are offered based on fitter availability once you are happy with the price.
