Conservation rooflight installation in Salford

Rooflight work is weather work. Membranes, primers and sealants all want a dry surface, so a fitting day in Salford is planned around the forecast rather than pinned to a date regardless of rain. The opening is kept covered whenever it is exposed, and a roof is not left open overnight without a proper temporary seal. That approach applies to every conservation rooflight we install, from a new opening to a straight swap or a fit-only job. We cover Salford, the M6 district and the rest of Greater Manchester.

Coverage in and around Salford

Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Eccles, 2 miles from Salford, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in M6, M5 and M3. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Old Trafford, around 2 miles out, is treated the same way.

What we check on a supplied unit

Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a conservation rooflight to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.

What we do on the day

  • Slates or tiles made good around the frame with tidy cuts
  • Flashings in lead or a matching kit, dressed to the covering
  • Position checked against any consent drawings or council conditions
  • Listed building consent — We confirm listed building consent is in place before fitting any rooflight on a listed building.
  • Reusing the original covering — We plan to reuse the existing slates or tiles wherever we can.

From arrival to clean-up

Morning first: the team arrives, introduces itself and walks through the job with you. Dust sheets go down in the room below and along the route in. Then the opening and upstand, or the flashing on a pitched roof, are checked against the unit's measurements. A conservation rooflight goes in, is fixed to the maker's pattern and sealed into the roof covering. Inside, the reveal is finished as quoted. Before leaving, the team clears debris and talks you through what was done. Most jobs of this type take one day.

Do you need permission in Salford?

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Help us quote accurately

For fit-only work, the product details matter most: the link, the spec sheet, or a photo of the label on the box. Alongside that, send pictures of the roof and the ceiling below, approximate opening sizes, the type of roof covering, and how someone would get onto the roof. For supply and fit, the same photos and sizes do the job. Finish with your postcode, such as M6.

Common questions in Salford

Can you fit the conservation rooflight I bought online?

Yes, fit-only is one of our core services. Send the product link or spec, photos of the roof and rough sizes, and we can usually price it from those. Before fitting we check the delivery for damage, which should be reported to the seller, plus the size against the opening, the flashing kit and the roof pitch. The product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our guarantee covers the fitting.

Will my new conservation rooflight leak?

A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

Tell us your postcode, M6 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
