Frameless rooflight installation in Rugby

If the frameless rooflight on your roof now is misted, discoloured, cracked or letting water in, replacing it is often simpler than people expect. The old unit comes out, we inspect the kerb or frame underneath, and we decide with you whether it can be reused or needs rebuilding. Then the new one goes in, sealed to the roof covering and finished inside. We handle this kind of frameless rooflight installation in Rugby and nearby, alongside new openings and fit-only work. Postcode CV21 and its neighbours are all within our cover.

Large single panes, lifting gear on the day

Guide ranges for supply & fit. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Where our fitters travel

Fitters travel to the job, so the address is what counts. In Rugby that means postcode districts CV21, CV22 and CV23, and the same teams can just as easily take on work in Daventry, about 9 miles away, or Coventry at roughly 11 miles. Survey and fitting dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is built into the quote rather than added later.

Already bought your unit?

If you have bought a frameless rooflight yourself, we check four things before fitting. First, the delivery: open it, look for chips, cracks and bent frames, and report any damage to the seller straight away. Second, the size, measured against the builder's opening rather than the external frame. Third, the upstand height above the finished roof. Fourth, the maker's instructions, which set the fixings and sealing. Product warranty claims go to the seller and maker; our guarantee is for how it was fitted.

What we do on the day

  • Glass bedded on the specified tape or sealant and fixed through the concealed frame
  • Fall set in the upstand so rain clears the oversailing glass edge
  • Lifting gear arranged for heavy single panes where two people cannot safely carry
  • Glass weight and access — We plan the lift for a frameless pane before the delivery is booked.
  • How the reveal will look — We agree the finish at the glass edge before building anything.

A typical installation day

Protection comes before tools. Floors, furniture and stairs get covered, and the ceiling below the opening is sheeted to catch dust. Up top, the fitters confirm the opening is square and the upstand or flashing suits what the maker specifies. Fixing follows, then weather-sealing into the membrane, felt or tiles. Only once the roof is tight do they turn to the internal reveal. Time on site for a frameless rooflight: one day, weather permitting.

Planning and building rules in England

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

Help us quote accurately

A fast quote needs five things: a photo of the roof from outside, one from the room below, rough sizes of the opening or the space, the roof covering (felt, single-ply, fibreglass, tiles, slate or metal), and a note on access. If you have already bought the unit, add the product link or spec sheet. And give us the postcode, CV21 or a neighbouring district.

Common questions in Rugby

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the frameless rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?

We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.

Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?

Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
