Frameless rooflight installation in Coventry

Rooflight work is weather work. Membranes, primers and sealants all want a dry surface, so a fitting day in Coventry is planned around the forecast rather than pinned to a date regardless of rain. The opening is kept covered whenever it is exposed, and a roof is not left open overnight without a proper temporary seal. That approach applies to every frameless rooflight we install, from a new opening to a straight swap or a fit-only job. We cover Coventry, the CV1 district and the rest of West Midlands.

Areas around Coventry we cover

Jobs across CV1, CV3 and CV5 are part of our normal cover for Coventry. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Kenilworth and Bedworth are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Supply and fit tends to suit people who would rather not pick a unit from a catalogue. We look at the roof, the opening and how you use the room, then put a frameless rooflight on the quote that fits all three. Fit-only suits people who already know what they want, or have one on site. We are happy with either. The difference is who stands behind what: on fit-only, the maker or retailer covers the product, and our workmanship guarantee covers the installation.

What we do on the day

  • Fall set in the upstand so rain clears the oversailing glass edge
  • Glass bedded on the specified tape or sealant and fixed through the concealed frame
  • Inside reveal formed so plaster or trim meets the glass cleanly
  • Laminated inner pane — We confirm the inner pane is laminated or otherwise suited to being overhead.
  • Drainage at the overhang — We check how water leaves the glass where it oversails the kerb.

A typical installation day

Where a job takes one day, the split is usually structural work first and finishing second. Early on, the fitters cut or prepare the opening, trim where needed and prepare the upstand or flashing. Then a frameless rooflight is lifted in, fixed and made weathertight so the roof is sound before anyone moves inside. Plasterboard, trim and filler for the reveal come after. Each evening the work area is swept, and at the end the glass is cleaned and the team talks you through what was done.

Regulations for Coventry properties

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

What to send for a quick quote

What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around CV1 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.

Common questions in Coventry

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

Do I need planning permission for a rooflight in Coventry?

Often not. Many rooflights fall under permitted development, provided they do not project beyond the national limit and meet the other conditions that apply in England. Conservation areas, listed buildings and some flats are different and may need consent. Because the rules depend on the property, we confirm what is likely to apply at your address and point you to the planning authority where an application is needed.

Got a unit waiting to go in, or need one sourced? Either way, start with your Coventry address and a couple of photos.
