Towns we list in Bristol
From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Bristol. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in England, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.
Included in the work
- Kerb sized from the maker's drawing, internal and external dimensions both checked
- Fall built into the kerb where the rooflight needs one
- Treated timber frame fixed down to the deck and joists
- Roof covering compatibility — We check what the roof is covered in before choosing how the membrane meets the kerb.
- Fall built in or level — We confirm whether your rooflight needs the kerb to provide a fall or should sit level.
Rules that apply in England
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.
Common questions in Bristol
Do you cover Bristol?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Bristol and the surrounding districts, including BS postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?
Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.
