Fitting across Earlsfield and nearby
Jobs across SW18, SW17 and SW12 are part of our normal cover for Earlsfield. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Wimbledon Park and Wandsworth are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.
What we check on a supplied unit
There are two ways to do this. Supply and fit means we source a sun tunnel that suits your roof and install it, so one company answers for both the product choice and the fitting. Fit-only means you buy the unit and we install it. With fit-only, the product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our written guarantee covers the fitting work. Both routes get the same checks on the opening, the upstand and the maker's instructions before anything is fixed.
On the day, we cover
- Dome fixed and sealed on top of the flashing
- Dust cleared from the room below and the loft
- Rigid or flexible tube run and joined, with as few bends as possible
- Rigid or flexible tube — We check whether a rigid tube will fit the route before falling back on a flexible one.
- Tube size — We match the tube size to the room and the roof.
What happens on the day
Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a sun tunnel level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes half a day to a day.
Planning and building rules in England
In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.
Help us quote accurately
Start with your phone. Take a picture of the roof where the unit goes or already sits, then one from inside looking up. Measure what you can, even roughly. Tell us what the roof is covered with and how a fitter would reach it: ladder, garden access or scaffold. Bought it already? Send the link or spec. Add your full postcode, for example in SW18, and we can price it.
Common questions in Earlsfield
What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the sun tunnel?
We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.
Do you cover Earlsfield?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Earlsfield and the surrounding districts, including SW18. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?
We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.
Ask for a quote for your Earlsfield roof. Survey dates are offered based on fitter availability once you are happy with the price.
