Sliding rooflight installation in Sale

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for sliding rooflight installation in Sale, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a sliding rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Sale and properties throughout Greater Manchester.

Guide ranges for supply & fit. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Is your address covered?

Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Stretford, 2 miles from Sale, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in M33, M32 and M21. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Urmston, around 2 miles out, is treated the same way.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Which works out better, buying your own or letting us supply? It depends on what you value. Buying your own gives you control of the product and what you pay for it. Letting us supply puts the whole job, unit and fitting, under one written quote. On a customer-supplied unit we still measure it against the opening, look at the upstand, and inspect the condition it arrived in. Warranty on the product sits with whoever sold it, while the fitting carries our own guarantee.

On the day, we cover

  • Lifting plan for the unit, often with gear booked for the day
  • Clear run confirmed for the glass to slide over when open
  • Frame fixed and weathered with the membrane dressed up the kerb
  • Power and safety stops — We confirm the power supply and the safety features before fitting day.
  • Guarding on the terrace — We look at how the roof terrace will be guarded before the rooflight is fitted.

How a fitting day runs

Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a sliding rooflight level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes one to two days.

Planning and building rules in England

Replacing a rooflight in an English home is a controlled fitting: it has to be self-certified by a scheme-registered installer or notified to building control. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so replacements we fit are notified with a building notice, and the new unit has to meet current energy limits. Adding a new one usually means a building regulations application, because joists or rafters are trimmed. On the planning side, most house rooflights are permitted development if they project 0.15 m or less; on a side slope the glass must be obscured and fixed unless the opening part is over 1.7 m above the floor.

Before you get in touch

Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, M33 or nearby, confirms travel.

Common questions in Sale

Does a rooflight need building regulations approval?

A new opening usually needs building regulations approval. A replacement is a controlled fitting: it must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. We are not registered with a scheme, so replacements we fit are notified to building control with a building notice, and the council's fee is shown on your quote.

Do you cover Sale?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Sale and the surrounding districts, including M33. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.

Send a few photos and your M33 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
