Covering M26 and neighbouring districts
Jobs across M26, M45 and BL9 are part of our normal cover for Radcliffe. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Whitefield and Prestwich are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.
Your sliding rooflights or ours
A damaged delivery is a frequent snag on fit-only work. Before the day, unpack a sliding rooflight, photograph it, and tell the seller about any cracks or scuffs, because claims are much easier made early. We will also ask for the model or a link, so we can read the maker's instructions and check the builder's opening size and the upstand height it expects. If everything lines up, we fit it. If not, we explain what needs changing first.
Included in the work
- Clear run confirmed for the glass to slide over when open
- Full open and close cycle checked before handover
- Cable routed to the motor, ready for the electrician's final connection, quoted as a separate line
- Power and safety stops — We confirm the power supply and the safety features before fitting day.
- Guarding on the terrace — We look at how the roof terrace will be guarded before the rooflight is fitted.
Fitting your sliding rooflight, step by step
On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a sliding rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.
Planning and building rules in England
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.
What to send for a quick quote
A fast quote needs five things: a photo of the roof from outside, one from the room below, rough sizes of the opening or the space, the roof covering (felt, single-ply, fibreglass, tiles, slate or metal), and a note on access. If you have already bought the unit, add the product link or spec sheet. And give us the postcode, M26 or a neighbouring district.
Common questions in Radcliffe
Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?
Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
Got a unit waiting to go in, or need one sourced? Either way, start with your Radcliffe address and a couple of photos.
