Sliding rooflight installation in Fulham

Builders and extension firms in Fulham often want the rooflight stage of a project handled by a specialist fitting team. We step in once the roof deck or battens are ready, fit a sliding rooflight on your upstand or ours, detail it into the membrane or tiles, and leave the opening ready for the plasterer. Homeowners get exactly the same service directly. In each case the job is quoted in writing first, with any access or lifting needs spelt out. Jobs around SW6 and the neighbouring districts are welcome.

Fitting across Fulham and nearby

Our fitters come to you. For Fulham that covers SW6, SW10 and SW5, plus nearby Hammersmith and Chelsea. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

What we check on a supplied unit

There are two ways to do this. Supply and fit means we source a sliding rooflight that suits your roof and install it, so one company answers for both the product choice and the fitting. Fit-only means you buy the unit and we install it. With fit-only, the product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our written guarantee covers the fitting work. Both routes get the same checks on the opening, the upstand and the maker's instructions before anything is fixed.

What the job includes

  • Frame fixed and weathered with the membrane dressed up the kerb
  • Clear run confirmed for the glass to slide over when open
  • Full open and close cycle checked before handover
  • Guarding on the terrace — We look at how the roof terrace will be guarded before the rooflight is fitted.
  • Power and safety stops — We confirm the power supply and the safety features before fitting day.

What happens on the day

Protection comes before tools. Floors, furniture and stairs get covered, and the ceiling below the opening is sheeted to catch dust. Up top, the fitters confirm the opening is square and the upstand or flashing suits what the maker specifies. Fixing follows, then weather-sealing into the membrane, felt or tiles. Only once the roof is tight do they turn to the internal reveal. Time on site for a sliding rooflight: one to two days, weather permitting.

Planning and building rules in England

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Before you get in touch

For fit-only work, the product details matter most: the link, the spec sheet, or a photo of the label on the box. Alongside that, send pictures of the roof and the ceiling below, approximate opening sizes, the type of roof covering, and how someone would get onto the roof. For supply and fit, the same photos and sizes do the job. Finish with your postcode, such as SW6.

Common questions in Fulham

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.

Will my new sliding rooflight leak?

A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.

Send a few photos and your SW6 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
