Sliding rooflight installation in County Tyrone

A good share of sliding rooflight installation in County Tyrone is replacement work. Older units go brittle or discoloured, sealed glass mists, and seals give up after years of sun and frost. Swapping the unit is often possible on the existing kerb, provided that kerb is sound, level and tall enough above the finished roof. Where it is not, we rebuild it. We cover the whole of County Tyrone, across 12 postcode districts, with fitters travelling to each address.

Towns we list in County Tyrone

County Tyrone is part of our normal coverage in Northern Ireland. Fitting teams travel out to the property, so a town-centre terrace and a house down a farm track are treated alike, as long as a fitter can get the unit to the roof safely. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and the cost of travel is already in your written quote.

What we do on the day

  • Full open and close cycle checked before handover
  • Cable routed to the motor, ready for the electrician's final connection, quoted as a separate line
  • Clear run confirmed for the glass to slide over when open
  • Guarding on the terrace — We look at how the roof terrace will be guarded before the rooflight is fitted.
  • Weight and lifting — We plan the lift for a sliding rooflight before it is ordered.

Rules that apply in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has its own rules. Permitted development for rooflights on a house requires the unit to sit below the highest part of the roof, project no more than 15 cm where the slope faces a road, and stay at least half a metre from the ridge, eaves, party wall and verge. It doesn't apply in conservation areas or within the grounds of a listed building. For building control, structural roof alterations need an application, and rooflights must meet WER Band C or 1.6 W/m²K.

Common questions in County Tyrone

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the sliding rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.

Does a rooflight need building control approval?

In Northern Ireland a new opening alters the roof structure, so expect a building control application; confirm the position with your council, including for replacements. The new rooflight must meet WER Band C or 1.6 W/m²K. We confirm what applies before you commit.
