Rooflight glass replacement in Leicestershire

Across Leicestershire we fit rooflight glass units for homeowners, builders, roofers and commercial clients. The trade side matters: an extension company with jobs running in several of the 13 towns we list does not want to coordinate a different fitter for each. We can take the rooflight element of every site, fitted to the maker's instructions and left ready for the next trade. Domestic customers get the same fitting standard, quoted in writing before work begins.

Towns we list in Leicestershire

From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Leicestershire. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in England, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.

What the job includes

  • Joints water tested and the glass cleaned inside and out
  • Measuring visit to size the glass and identify its make-up
  • New unit set on packers, then beaded, capped or bonded as designed
  • Condensation or a failed seal — We confirm whether the mist is inside the sealed unit or on the room-side surface.
  • Condition of the frame — We look at the frame closely before committing to new glass.

Rules that apply in England

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Common questions in Leicestershire

Is the measuring visit charged?

Yes. The first visit measures the existing glass and checks the frame, and it is charged. We confirm that price before you book. The fitting of the new glass is then priced in writing, so you see the full cost before anything is ordered.

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.
