New rooflight in an existing roof in County Londonderry

Across County Londonderry we fit rooflights for homeowners, builders, roofers and commercial clients. The trade side matters: an extension company with jobs running in both towns we list does not want to coordinate a different fitter for each. We can take the rooflight element of every site, fitted to the maker's instructions and left ready for the next trade. Domestic customers get the same fitting standard, quoted in writing before work begins.

Towns we list in County Londonderry

We work right across Northern Ireland, and County Londonderry is covered on the same footing as everywhere else. There is no showroom or depot to visit. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only jobs, from your photos. If your address is remote or reached by ferry, tell us early and we will confirm what arrangement is needed before quoting.

Included in the work

  • Opening marked out, covering stripped back and the deck cut cleanly
  • Plasterboard reveals formed inside and left ready for skim or decoration
  • Insulated upstand built square, level and to the maker's height
  • Cables, pipes and ceiling fittings — We look into the ceiling void for anything in the way of the new opening.
  • Planning for your roof — We check whether the new rooflight falls within permitted development for your house and nation.

Rules that apply in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has its own rules. Permitted development for rooflights on a house requires the unit to sit below the highest part of the roof, project no more than 15 cm where the slope faces a road, and stay at least half a metre from the ridge, eaves, party wall and verge. It doesn't apply in conservation areas or within the grounds of a listed building. For building control, structural roof alterations need an application, and rooflights must meet WER Band C or 1.6 W/m²K.

Common questions in County Londonderry

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

Do you make good inside after fitting?

Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
