Towns we list in Wiltshire
Fitting across Wiltshire means planning routes, access and lifting as well as the roof itself. Narrow lanes, shared driveways and town-centre parking restrictions all affect how a large unit is delivered and raised to roof level. We ask about these early so the quote reflects them. That approach is the same everywhere we work in England, from single domestic jobs to multi-unit commercial sites.

What we do on the day
- Membrane, felt or GRP finished to the frame the way the maker shows
- Reveal lined and trimmed inside, with the glass left clean
- Product paperwork handed over and warranty registration explained
- Weight of large panes — We check the weight of the unit against how we will get it onto the roof.
- Solar gain on south-facing roofs — We ask which way the roof faces and how the room is used before suggesting glass.
Rules that apply in England
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Common questions in Wiltshire
Does a rooflight need building regulations approval?
A new opening usually needs building regulations approval. A replacement is a controlled fitting: it must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. We are not registered with a scheme, so replacements we fit are notified to building control with a building notice, and the council's fee is shown on your quote.
Will my new flat rooflight leak?
A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.
Do you cover Wiltshire?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Wiltshire and the surrounding districts, including BA, SN and SP postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
