Flat rooflight installation in Rugby

Builders and extension firms in Rugby often want the rooflight stage of a project handled by a specialist fitting team. We step in once the roof deck or battens are ready, fit a flat rooflight on your upstand or ours, detail it into the membrane or tiles, and leave the opening ready for the plasterer. Homeowners get exactly the same service directly. In each case the job is quoted in writing first, with any access or lifting needs spelt out. Jobs around CV21 and the neighbouring districts are welcome.

Coverage in and around Rugby

Our fitters come to you. For Rugby that covers CV21, CV22 and CV23, plus nearby Daventry and Coventry. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a flat rooflight to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.

What we do on the day

  • Upstand checked or built to the maker's internal and external sizes
  • Lifting gear or extra hands arranged for large and heavy panes
  • Fall confirmed so rain runs off the glass rather than sitting on it
  • Ceiling and reveal depth — We measure the depth from the kerb top to the ceiling to plan the reveal.
  • Fixed or opening — We ask whether you need ventilation before you settle on a fixed unit.

How a fitting day runs

Where a job takes one day, the split is usually structural work first and finishing second. Early on, the fitters cut or prepare the opening, trim where needed and prepare the upstand or flashing. Then a flat rooflight is lifted in, fixed and made weathertight so the roof is sound before anyone moves inside. Plasterboard, trim and filler for the reveal come after. Each evening the work area is swept, and at the end the glass is cleaned and the team talks you through what was done.

Planning, building control and Rugby

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Help us quote accurately

Keep it simple. Two or three photos, outside and inside. Approximate sizes. What the roof is made of. Anything awkward about getting up there, such as a conservatory below, a narrow side path or no parking. If you bought the rooflight online, the link or model name. Then your postcode in or around CV21. That is enough for a first price.

Common questions in Rugby

Do you cover Rugby?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Rugby and the surrounding districts, including CV21. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Does a rooflight need building regulations approval?

A new opening usually needs building regulations approval. A replacement is a controlled fitting: it must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. We are not registered with a scheme, so replacements we fit are notified to building control with a building notice, and the council's fee is shown on your quote.

How does payment work?

Payment terms are set out on your written quote before you accept it. Depending on the job, that may mean a deposit, stage payments for larger work, or payment on completion. The contract is with S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, part of the S&K Group. Nothing is added without your agreement: if something unexpected comes up, we discuss it and agree any change before carrying on.
