Guide ranges for supply & fit; the electrician's final connection is quoted separately. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.
Towns we list in Cumbria
From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Cumbria. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in England, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.

Included in the work
- Unit fitted, sealed and weathered like a fixed flat rooflight
- Rain sensor positioned where it will get wet when rain starts
- Cable route planned through the kerb or reveal before the lining goes on
- Opening onto a side slope — We check where the opening part will sit if the roof is pitched or the unit faces a neighbour.
- Who makes the final connection — We confirm who will connect the rooflight to the mains before booking.
Rules that apply in England
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Common questions in Cumbria
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
Do you cover Cumbria?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Cumbria and the surrounding districts, including CA and LA postcodes. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
