Electric opening rooflight installation in Camborne

Rooflight work is weather work. Membranes, primers and sealants all want a dry surface, so a fitting day in Camborne is planned around the forecast rather than pinned to a date regardless of rain. The opening is kept covered whenever it is exposed, and a roof is not left open overnight without a proper temporary seal. That approach applies to every electric opening rooflight we install, from a new opening to a straight swap or a fit-only job. We cover Camborne, the TR14 district and the rest of Cornwall.

Guide ranges for supply & fit; the electrician's final connection is quoted separately. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Where our fitters travel

If you also own a property or a business unit in Redruth, Falmouth or Truro, that is no problem. We can survey and quote both, and where it suits, line the fitting days up together. Every address is reached by fitters travelling to it from their current jobs, and TR14, TR15 and TR16 sit comfortably within that pattern.

Buying your own, or letting us supply

If you have bought an electric opening rooflight yourself, we check four things before fitting. First, the delivery: open it, look for chips, cracks and bent frames, and report any damage to the seller straight away. Second, the size, measured against the builder's opening rather than the external frame. Third, the upstand height above the finished roof. Fourth, the maker's instructions, which set the fixings and sealing. Product warranty claims go to the seller and maker; our guarantee is for how it was fitted.

Included in the work

  • Unit fitted, sealed and weathered like a fixed flat rooflight
  • Opening and closing tested, with controls explained at handover
  • Cable route planned through the kerb or reveal before the lining goes on
  • Opening onto a side slope — We check where the opening part will sit if the roof is pitched or the unit faces a neighbour.
  • Where power comes from — We find a sensible power supply for the rooflight before fitting day.

What happens on the day

Where a job takes one day, plus the electrician's connection, the split is usually structural work first and finishing second. Early on, the fitters cut or prepare the opening, trim where needed and prepare the upstand or flashing. Then an electric opening rooflight is lifted in, fixed and made weathertight so the roof is sound before anyone moves inside. Plasterboard, trim and filler for the reveal come after. Each evening the work area is swept, and at the end the glass is cleaned and the team talks you through what was done.

Regulations for Camborne properties

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

Help us quote accurately

Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, TR14 or nearby, confirms travel.

Common questions in Camborne

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the electric opening rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

What upstand height and roof pitch does electric opening rooflight fitting need?

It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.

Do you cover Camborne?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Camborne and the surrounding districts, including TR14. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

Tell us your postcode, TR14 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
