Coverage in and around Melton Mowbray
Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Oakham, 9 miles from Melton Mowbray, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in LE13, LE14 and LE7. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Mountsorrel, around 12 miles out, is treated the same way.
Your dome rooflights or ours
Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a dome rooflight to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.
Included in the work
- Kerb checked for rot, size and height before the new unit goes on
- Membrane checked where it meets the kerb, with small repairs made
- Kerb top cleaned of old sealant, fixings and loose felt
- Multi-skin domes and energy — We fit multi-skin domes rather than single-skin ones as replacements.
- Kerb size and adaptors — We measure every kerb against the new dome's sizes.
Fitting your dome rooflight, step by step
On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a dome rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.
Do you need permission in Melton Mowbray?
In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.
What to send for a quick quote
Keep it simple. Two or three photos, outside and inside. Approximate sizes. What the roof is made of. Anything awkward about getting up there, such as a conservatory below, a narrow side path or no parking. If you bought the rooflight online, the link or model name. Then your postcode in or around LE13. That is enough for a first price.
Common questions in Melton Mowbray
Do you cover Melton Mowbray?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Melton Mowbray and the surrounding districts, including LE13. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
How long does fitting take?
Fitting a dome rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
Send a few photos and your LE13 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
