Conservation rooflight installation in Liverpool

Rooflight work is weather work. Membranes, primers and sealants all want a dry surface, so a fitting day in Liverpool is planned around the forecast rather than pinned to a date regardless of rain. The opening is kept covered whenever it is exposed, and a roof is not left open overnight without a proper temporary seal. That approach applies to every conservation rooflight we install, from a new opening to a straight swap or a fit-only job. We cover Liverpool, the L3 district and the rest of Merseyside.

Coverage in and around Liverpool

Jobs across L3, L69 and L70 are part of our normal cover for Liverpool. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Kensington and Birkenhead are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a conservation rooflight to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.

On the day, we cover

  • Flashings in lead or a matching kit, dressed to the covering
  • Position checked against any consent drawings or council conditions
  • Rooflight set low so it sits close to the line of the roof
  • Listed building consent — We confirm listed building consent is in place before fitting any rooflight on a listed building.
  • Conservation area rules by nation — We check the permitted development position for your nation before the rooflight is ordered.

How a fitting day runs

Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a conservation rooflight level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes one day.

Do you need permission in Liverpool?

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Details that speed up your quote

Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, L3 or nearby, confirms travel.

Common questions in Liverpool

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a conservation rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.

Does a rooflight need building regulations approval?

A new opening usually needs building regulations approval. A replacement is a controlled fitting: it must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. We are not registered with a scheme, so replacements we fit are notified to building control with a building notice, and the council's fee is shown on your quote.

Do you cover Liverpool?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Liverpool and the surrounding districts, including L3. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
