The details a specialist gets right
A general builder can frame an opening perfectly well. The trouble usually comes at the top of it. Rooflight makers specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof, a minimum pitch on the glass, and particular fixings and packers. Miss one of those and the unit can hold water, leak at the corners, or put its product warranty at risk. A fitting specialist works to those figures and checks where each maker's instructions differ. That is the part of the job worth handing over.
Postcodes and places we cover
Our fitters cover all of Stratford-upon-Avon, including CV37, CV35 and B50, and travel on to Warwick, Leamington Spa and Kenilworth on the same basis. Nobody needs to visit us, because we come to the property for surveys and fitting. Dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is part of the written quote rather than an extra.
Planning and building rules in England
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Questions about rooflight fitting in Stratford-upon-Avon
What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the rooflight?
We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.
What upstand height and roof pitch does rooflight fitting need?
It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?
Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.
