Why use a rooflight fitting specialist
The joint between the rooflight and the roof covering is where most leaks start. On a flat roof that means turning the membrane up the kerb and terminating it properly under the frame. On a pitched roof it means the right flashing kit, lapped correctly with the tiles or slates. These details are fiddly and easy to rush on a busy build. Giving them to someone focused on fitting the rooflight, rather than treating it as one task among dozens, cuts the chance of a callback.
Covering Braunstone and surrounding areas
Postcodes LE3, LE1 and LE2 are the core of our Braunstone coverage, but they are not the boundary. Addresses in Glen Parva, Leicester and Oadby are handled in just the same way, with fitters travelling to each one and travel costs built into the quote before you agree to anything. If you are unsure which side of a boundary you fall on, the full postcode settles it.
Do you need permission in Braunstone?
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Questions about rooflight fitting in Braunstone
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
What upstand height and roof pitch does rooflight fitting need?
It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
