Walk-on rooflight installation in Cambridgeshire

Walk-on rooflight installation across Cambridgeshire follows one method wherever the roof is. First a survey or, for fit-only work, your photos and measurements. Then a written quote with the scope and price fixed. Then a fitting day planned around the weather. We list 10 towns in Cambridgeshire on this site, each with its own page, but villages and addresses between them are covered in exactly the same way. Fitters travel to the property, so there is no need to be near any particular town.

Towns we list in Cambridgeshire

Coverage in Cambridgeshire works by postcode, not by distance from an office. Give us the full postcode and we will confirm whether it is standard cover, as it is for most of England, or one of the few remote and island areas handled by arrangement. Either way, you get a written quote before any work is booked, with travel included in the price.

What the job includes

  • Support frame or upstand prepared to the approved structural design
  • Unit bedded and fixed so it sits level with the finished surface
  • Engineer's calculations and the unit's loading data checked together
  • Non-fragile is not walk-on — We make sure the unit is genuinely designed for foot traffic.
  • Drainage around the glass — We check how water will drain from the terrace around the unit.

Rules that apply in England

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Common questions in Cambridgeshire

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

What upstand height and roof pitch does walk-on rooflight fitting need?

It depends on the product. Manufacturers usually specify a minimum upstand height above the finished roof surface, and a minimum pitch on the glass so rain runs off. We follow the maker's figures for your unit rather than a rule of thumb. If your existing kerb or roof falls short, we explain the options, such as raising the upstand or choosing a unit with built-in pitch.

How does payment work?

Payment terms are set out on your written quote before you accept it. Depending on the job, that may mean a deposit, stage payments for larger work, or payment on completion. The contract is with S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, part of the S&K Group. Nothing is added without your agreement: if something unexpected comes up, we discuss it and agree any change before carrying on.
