Covering NG24 and neighbouring districts
Covering Newark on Trent means covering the people who live and work there, not a single postcode. We take on domestic and commercial jobs in NG24, NG23 and NG25, and are happy to quote further out in Grantham and Arnold. If your address sits between towns, tell us and we will confirm whether it falls in our normal area or needs travel set out separately on the quote.
On the day, we cover
- Upstands built by us where you would rather not
- Roof lanterns assembled and glazed on your upstand
- A short note of anything we found that needs your attention
- Building control sign-off — We agree with you how building control is handled before fitting.
- Upstand ready and to size — We ask for the upstands to be built to the maker's drawing before we arrive.
What happens on the day
On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.
Planning and building rules in England
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so on replacements we agree up front who notifies building control.
Details that speed up your quote
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, NG24 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Newark on Trent
Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?
Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
Do you cover Newark on Trent?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Newark on Trent and the surrounding districts, including NG24. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
