Trade rooflight fitting in Hindley

Glass is heavy, and bigger units get heavy fast. Fitting a rooflight in Hindley means planning how it travels from the delivery vehicle to the roof without chipping an edge or straining a back. Smaller units go up by hand with two fitters. Larger ones may need a hoist, a scaffold loading bay or a crane, and we tell you at quote stage if that applies. Once it is up, the fitting follows the maker's sequence: seat, fix, seal, finish. We take on work like this across Greater Manchester.

Fitting team for multi-unit or mixed work

Guide ranges for labour only, ex VAT for trade accounts. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Is your address covered?

Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Wigan, 2 miles from Hindley, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in WN2, WN1 and WN3. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Westhoughton, around 3 miles out, is treated the same way.

What the job includes

  • Roof lanterns assembled and glazed on your upstand
  • Upstands checked for size, height, level and square
  • Flat rooflights fitted, sealed and trimmed on your kerbs
  • Programme and access — We confirm site access, lifting arrangements and working hours before the visit.
  • Building control sign-off — We agree with you how building control is handled before fitting.

What happens on the day

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Do you need permission in Hindley?

Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so on replacements we agree up front who notifies building control.

Getting a price from photos

What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around WN2 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.

Common questions in Hindley

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

Do you cover Hindley?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Hindley and the surrounding districts, including WN2. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

How does payment work?

Payment terms are set out on your written quote before you accept it. Depending on the job, that may mean a deposit, stage payments for larger work, or payment on completion. The contract is with S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, part of the S&K Group. Nothing is added without your agreement: if something unexpected comes up, we discuss it and agree any change before carrying on.
