Covering EX16 and neighbouring districts
Looking at a property near Tiverton but not quite in it? We work across EX16, EX15 and EX5 and outwards to Exeter, Heavitree and Taunton. Give us the full postcode when you get in touch, because access, parking and the route for a large unit all depend on the exact street. Those details shape the quote for any job around Tiverton.
On the day, we cover
- Flat rooflights fitted, sealed and trimmed on your kerbs
- Upstands built by us where you would rather not
- Pitched roof windows fitted with their flashing kits
- Deliveries and damage — We check delivered units against the schedule before fitting.
- Who weathers the roof — We agree who turns the roof covering up the kerb before we book.
A typical installation day
Protection comes before tools. Floors, furniture and stairs get covered, and the ceiling below the opening is sheeted to catch dust. Up top, the fitters confirm the opening is square and the upstand or flashing suits what the maker specifies. Fixing follows, then weather-sealing into the membrane, felt or tiles. Only once the roof is tight do they turn to the internal reveal. Time on site for a rooflight: half a day to a day per unit, weather permitting.
Do you need permission in Tiverton?
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so on replacements we agree up front who notifies building control.
What to send for a quick quote
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, EX16 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Tiverton
Who deals with building control on trade jobs?
On new-build and extension work the rooflights usually sit within your approval or warrant. On replacements in homes in England and Wales we agree up front who notifies building control; we are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we cannot self-certify.
How long does fitting take?
Fitting a rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
