Areas around Wisbech we cover
Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in March, 8 miles from Wisbech, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in PE13 and PE15. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. King's Lynn, around 12 miles out, is treated the same way.
Included in the work
- Pitched roof windows fitted with their flashing kits
- Flat rooflights fitted, sealed and trimmed on your kerbs
- Roof lanterns assembled and glazed on your upstand
- Upstand ready and to size — We ask for the upstands to be built to the maker's drawing before we arrive.
- Programme and access — We confirm site access, lifting arrangements and working hours before the visit.
How a fitting day runs
Fitting days start with a look at the sky. If rain is due, the order of work changes so the roof is never left open to it. A typical day for a rooflight runs like this: set up access, protect the room, open up the roof or prepare the existing kerb or frame, check sizes, fix, seal, then finish inside. On jobs that take more than a day, the opening is weather-sealed overnight. The last hour goes on tidying, waste removal and a walk-round with you.
Do you need permission in Wisbech?
England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we agree up front who notifies it. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.
Getting a price from photos
What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around PE13 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.
Common questions in Wisbech
Will my new rooflight leak?
A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.
Do you cover Wisbech?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Wisbech and the surrounding districts, including PE13. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
How long does fitting take?
Fitting a rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.
