Rooflight replacement in Cannock

Glass is heavy, and bigger units get heavy fast. Fitting a replacement rooflight in Cannock means planning how it travels from the delivery vehicle to the roof without chipping an edge or straining a back. Smaller units go up by hand with two fitters. Larger ones may need a hoist, a scaffold loading bay or a crane, and we tell you at quote stage if that applies. Once it is up, the fitting follows the maker's sequence: seat, fix, seal, finish. We take on work like this across Staffordshire.

Fitting across Cannock and nearby

Jobs across WS11, WS12 and WS6 are part of our normal cover for Cannock. We are not an office on the high street. Our fitting teams come out to the property from wherever they are working that week. Neighbouring places such as Great Wyrley and Burntwood are covered on the same terms, so a house on the edge of town is no harder to book than one in the centre.

Already bought your unit?

There are two ways to do this. Supply and fit means we source a replacement rooflight that suits your roof and install it, so one company answers for both the product choice and the fitting. Fit-only means you buy the unit and we install it. With fit-only, the product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our written guarantee covers the fitting work. Both routes get the same checks on the opening, the upstand and the maker's instructions before anything is fixed.

On the day, we cover

  • Packers, an adaptor or a new insulated upstand where the old kerb falls short
  • Building notice given to the council in England and Wales, with its fee on the quote
  • Internal reveal made good where the old trim or plaster was damaged
  • Energy rules for the new unit — We make sure the replacement meets the current energy limit, not just the old unit's performance.
  • Is the kerb worth keeping? — We decide whether the existing kerb can stay only after checking it for rot, height and squareness.

From arrival to clean-up

Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a replacement rooflight level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes one day.

Do you need permission in Cannock?

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

What to send for a quick quote

A fast quote needs five things: a photo of the roof from outside, one from the room below, rough sizes of the opening or the space, the roof covering (felt, single-ply, fibreglass, tiles, slate or metal), and a note on access. If you have already bought the unit, add the product link or spec sheet. And give us the postcode, WS11 or a neighbouring district.

Common questions in Cannock

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.

Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?

Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.

Do you cover Cannock?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Cannock and the surrounding districts, including WS11. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
