Rooflight leak repairs in Gwent

Before any leaking rooflight is fitted in Gwent, three measurements get checked: the builder's opening, the external size of the unit, and the upstand height above the finished roof, or the batten and tile details on a pitched roof. Get those right and the rest of the job follows. We handle rooflight leak repairs in every part of Gwent, with 8 towns listed on the site and the countryside between them covered too.

Towns we list in Gwent

From the larger towns to the smaller places in between, we take on rooflight fitting across Gwent. The process is the same for a terrace, a farmhouse extension or an industrial unit: details first, written quote second, fitting day third. Remote and island addresses in Wales, where they arise, are covered by arrangement, and we tell you that before quoting.

Included in the work

  • Failed sealant cut out, joints cleaned, dried and resealed
  • Inside check of stains, frame drainage channels and the reveal
  • Membrane splits at the upstand cut back and patched
  • Age of the rooflight — We weigh the age and condition of the unit before recommending a repair.
  • Warranty and who fitted it — We ask who fitted the rooflight and when before working on it.

Rules that apply in Wales

In Wales, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval, and a replacement needs either a scheme-registered installer's certificate or a building notice to the council. We are not registered with a scheme, so we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. Rooflights must meet 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K. Planning is tighter than in England: rooflights are not permitted development in conservation areas, National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or World Heritage Sites, so we check your address before quoting.

Common questions in Gwent

Can you replace just the misted glass?

Often, yes. Misting between the panes means the sealed unit has failed, but the frame around it may be perfectly sound. Where the maker's design allows the glass to be changed, we measure the unit and fit a replacement, which costs less than a whole new rooflight. Where it does not, or the frame is also worn out, we explain why replacement is the better option.

Will resealing fix my leaking rooflight?

Sometimes. If the sealant has simply aged and the flashing, upstand and glass are sound, a careful reseal on a dry day can solve it. If the real problem is ponding water, a low upstand or a perished membrane, fresh sealant will only hide it for a while. We tell you which one you are dealing with before recommending any work, and quote the proper fix in writing.

Is it condensation or a leak?

Condensation tends to appear on cold mornings, on the inner face of the glass, and runs down the frame. A leak usually follows rain or wind from a particular direction and often stains the ceiling around the opening. Blocked condensation channels can make the two look alike. Photos and a note of when it happens help us narrow it down before the visit.
