Rooflight glass replacement in Haydock

Before ordering new glass for a rooflight in Haydock, we need to know three things: the exact size and thickness of the existing unit, the glass type it needs to match or improve on, and whether the frame is still sound enough to keep. A charged measuring visit, priced before booking, answers all three. If the frame is fine, a new sealed unit is made and fitted on a second visit. If it is not, we price a full replacement instead.

Fitting across Haydock and nearby

Covering Haydock means covering the people who live and work there, not a single postcode. We take on domestic and commercial jobs in WA11, WA12 and WA9, and are happy to quote further out in Ashton in Makerfield and St Helens. If your address sits between towns, tell us and we will confirm whether it falls in our normal area or needs travel set out separately on the quote.

On the day, we cover

  • New glazing tapes, gaskets or sealant fitted to suit the frame
  • Sealed unit ordered to match or improve on the original glass
  • Measuring visit to size the glass and identify its make-up
  • Can the glass come out? — We check whether your rooflight has removable glass or a bonded unit before booking a fitting visit.
  • Weight and lifting — We plan how a heavy pane gets onto the roof and into the frame.

How the glass is replaced

The second visit is the quick one. With the new unit made to size, the fitters take the old glass out, check the frame and drainage paths, and set the new glass on packers so it sits square and drains properly. Seals and cappings are renewed where needed, the area is cleared, and you are shown what was done.

Do you need permission in Haydock?

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

What to send us

Photos of the problem glass from inside and out, a rough width and length, and whether the rooflight opens or is fixed are enough to price the first visit. Add the postcode and how the roof is reached, and tell us if more than one unit has misted.

Common questions in Haydock

Is the measuring visit charged?

Yes. The first visit measures the existing glass and checks the frame, and it is charged. We confirm that price before you book. The fitting of the new glass is then priced in writing, so you see the full cost before anything is ordered.

How long does new rooflight glass take?

The new sealed unit is made to the measured size, so there is a gap between the measuring visit and the fitting visit while it is produced. We give you the expected timing when we price the glass, and book the fitting once it has arrived.

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.
