Rooflight glass replacement in Wimbledon Park

A misted or cracked rooflight does not always need a whole new unit. If the frame is sound and the seals around it are dry, we can often measure for a new sealed glass unit and fit it into the existing frame in Wimbledon Park. The first visit is to measure and check the frame, which is charged, with the price confirmed before you book. The new glass is then made to size, and a second visit fits it. If the frame itself has failed, we tell you that a replacement rooflight makes more sense.

Coverage in and around Wimbledon Park

Wimbledon Park and the districts around it, SW19, SW18 and SW17, all sit inside our working area. So does the ground between Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon (1 mile), and on towards Earlsfield (1 mile). When a fitting team is booked, their travel is already in the quoted price, so it does not turn up as a surprise line on the final bill.

What the job includes

  • New unit set on packers, then beaded, capped or bonded as designed
  • Old glass taken out safely and removed from site
  • Joints water tested and the glass cleaned inside and out
  • Condition of the frame — We look at the frame closely before committing to new glass.
  • Matching the glass make-up — We identify the existing glass so the replacement performs at least as well.

How the glass is replaced

The second visit is the quick one. With the new unit made to size, the fitters take the old glass out, check the frame and drainage paths, and set the new glass on packers so it sits square and drains properly. Seals and cappings are renewed where needed, the area is cleared, and you are shown what was done.

Planning, building control and Wimbledon Park

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

What to send us

Photos of the problem glass from inside and out, a rough width and length, and whether the rooflight opens or is fixed are enough to price the first visit. Add the postcode and how the roof is reached, and tell us if more than one unit has misted.

Common questions in Wimbledon Park

Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?

If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.

Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?

Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.

Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?

Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.
