Where our fitters travel
Fitters travel to the job, so the address is what counts. In Bearsden that means postcode districts G61, G15 and G13, and the same teams can just as easily take on work in Clydebank, about 3 miles away, or Renfrew at roughly 4 miles. Survey and fitting dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is built into the quote rather than added later.
On the day, we cover
- Joints water tested and the glass cleaned inside and out
- Old glass taken out safely and removed from site
- Sealed unit ordered to match or improve on the original glass
- Can the glass come out? — We check whether your rooflight has removable glass or a bonded unit before booking a fitting visit.
- Condition of the frame — We look at the frame closely before committing to new glass.
How the glass is replaced
The second visit is the quick one. With the new unit made to size, the fitters take the old glass out, check the frame and drainage paths, and set the new glass on packers so it sits square and drains properly. Seals and cappings are renewed where needed, the area is cleared, and you are shown what was done.
Regulations for Bearsden properties
In Scotland a new rooflight needs a building warrant before work starts. A like-for-like replacement including the frame is exempt from a warrant but must meet current standards, so the glazing has to reach 1.6 W/m²K or better. For planning, rooflights on houses outside conservation areas can often go ahead under permitted development, but it is worth confirming with the planning authority.
What to send us
Photos of the problem glass from inside and out, a rough width and length, and whether the rooflight opens or is fixed are enough to price the first visit. Add the postcode and how the roof is reached, and tell us if more than one unit has misted.
Common questions in Bearsden
Can you replace just the glass in my rooflight?
Often, yes. If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, a new sealed unit can go into the existing frame. If the frame has failed, is distorted or leaks around the edge, replacing the whole rooflight is usually the better answer, and we tell you that.
Is new glass or a new rooflight better value?
If the frame, gaskets and drainage are sound, new glass is usually the cheaper fix. If the frame is cracked, distorted or leaking at the kerb, a full replacement is better value. After the measuring visit we price both so you can compare.
Can I upgrade the glass while it is being replaced?
Usually. Solar-control, self-cleaning, toughened or laminated glass can be specified as long as the frame can take the thickness and weight. We check that on the measuring visit and price the options side by side.
Send photos of the problem in Bearsden and we will price the visit before you book it.
