Pitched roof window installation in Hyde

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for pitched roof window installation in Hyde, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a pitched roof window looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Hyde and properties throughout Greater Manchester.

Covering SK14 and neighbouring districts

Hyde and the districts around it, SK14, SK16 and M34, all sit inside our working area. So does the ground between Hyde and Denton (2 miles), and on towards Dukinfield (2 miles). When a fitting team is booked, their travel is already in the quoted price, so it does not turn up as a surprise line on the final bill.

Already bought your unit?

A damaged delivery is a frequent snag on fit-only work. Before the day, unpack a pitched roof window, photograph it, and tell the seller about any cracks or scuffs, because claims are much easier made early. We will also ask for the model or a link, so we can read the maker's instructions and check the opening size and the flashing kit it expects. If everything lines up, we fit it. If not, we explain what needs changing first.

Included in the work

  • Flashing kit matched to tiles, slates or a recessed fit
  • Insulation collar and vapour layer fitted to stop a cold edge
  • Tiles or slates cut and refitted neatly around the flashing
  • Flashing to suit the roof — We match the flashing kit to your roof covering before ordering.
  • Scaffold or not — We look at the roof height and the window position to see whether scaffolding is needed.

What happens on the day

Fitting days start with a look at the sky. If rain is due, the order of work changes so the roof is never left open to it. A typical day for a pitched roof window runs like this: set up access, protect the room, open up the roof or prepare the existing kerb or frame, check sizes, fix, seal, then finish inside. On jobs that take more than a day, the opening is weather-sealed overnight. The last hour goes on tidying, waste removal and a walk-round with you.

Do you need permission in Hyde?

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

Getting a price from photos

Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, SK14 or nearby, confirms travel.

Common questions in Hyde

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the pitched roof window?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?

We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.

Will my new pitched roof window leak?

A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.

Send a few photos and your SK14 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
